Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku Receives Meritorious Award of Excellence

The Wife of the Taraba State Governor, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku was presented with a meritorious Award of Excellence by Tekan-Ecwa Women wing of Taraba State.

Speaking at the ceremony which took place at the Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba, Mrs. Sarah David, chairperson of Tekan-Ecwa Women Wing said that Barr. Anna was selected based on her Christian and humanitarian services.

She enumerated the services to include renovation of two Christian Cemeteries at Magami and Mallam Joda, liberation of Ngada people, offering of training in different skills to women and youths as well as training of traditional birth attendants among others.

Sarah Ibbi pledged the unalloyed support of Tekan-Ecwa Women Wing to Governor Darius Ishaku’s re-election in the forthcoming general elections.

She revealed that the group will soon embark on in-depth dialogue with women at grassroots to sustain the tempo of followership and electioneering awareness.

Responding, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku appreciated the Tekan-Ecwa Women Wing for finding her worthy of the award.

The Governor’s Wife expressed happiness saying that the little effort she had made in touching lives had been reckoned with.

She remarked that those who were trained by her foundation had made her proud by touching the lives of others in the society.

She therefore reiterated the resolve of her pet project, the Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba to touching the lives of the downtrodden in the State.

In his closing remarks, State Chairman of Tekan-Ecwa Bloc, Rev. Phillip Micah Doppah congratulated the Governor’s wife saying that the Award was a well deserved one to the First Lady of the State.

The Award was presented by Rev. Phillip Micah Doppah on behalf of National and State officials of Tekan-Ecwa.

dsc_7276The Wife of Taraba State Governor Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku has called on Civil Societies, NGOs and individuals to collaborate with the the government as a renewed strategy to curb the menace of HIV/AIDS in the society and particularly among adolescents.

The Governor’s wife stated this shortly after the Northern Governor’s Wives Forum held recently in Abuja. The meeting which was hosted by wife of the Benue State Governor, Dr. Eunice Samuel Ortom is the second under the present administration.

Barr. Anna who described the meeting as quite revealing given presentations on issues affecting the society with emphasis on the northern zone expressed shock over the increased rate of HIV/AIDS among adolescents.

She noted with dismay that Taraba State is rated among the high prevalent states adding that the scary statistics is a wake-up call to stakeholders and urged them to return to the drawing board as researches and intervention mechanisms by government and international agencies seem to be defying solutions.

The Governor’s Wife further disclosed that one of the issues raised that her NGO would also focus on is drug and substance abuse, stressing that it is a cause of concern as this vice is destroying youths at an alarming rate.

In a communique presented by the Chairperson of the forum and wife of Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Asmau Yari, the forum stressed readiness to focus on addressing the issue of drugs and substance abuse using counseling as a major tool as well as collaboration to tackle HIV/AIDS amongst adolescents.

The forum noted with satisfaction the recent improvement on security within the country particularly in the northern region and the release of twenty one Chibok girls while commending President Buhari’s security agencies as well as domestic and international humanitarian efforts.

The Northern Governor’s wives applauded the effort of the wife of the President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari and the Future Assured Program for raising awareness and easing the plight of Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) and expressed willingness to participate in their resettlement.

The meeting recorded various presentations from experts on how to end HIV/AIDS with drugs and substance abuse among youths in Northern Nigeria.

It is said that behind every successful man is a successful woman, and in this case a determined woman who sees success as synonymous with commitment. Mrs. Anna Darius Ishaku, wife of the Taraba state Governor, since the assumption of office of the Darius led administration has demonstrated that no stone will be left unturned in the quest to bring to reality the objectives of the Rescue Mission.barranna

In the past hundred days in office of the administration, Mrs. Anna Ishaku who met with women and youths at different meetings encouraged the women and youth to be proactive and rise to the challenge of development from the self to the larger society, as the government will provide the platform for the actualization of these goals, one of which is her pet project tagged, HOPE AFRESH FOUNDATION.

The wife of the Governor, Mrs. Anna Darius Ishaku during a reception organized in her honor in Jalingo by the Taraba state chapter of the National Council of Women’s Societies, NCWS, where she was decorated as the PATRON of the organization, said women must encourage and be supportive of themselves towards achieving set goals.

The wife of the Governor, who urged the NCWS to sustain the tempo in building unity among the women in the state, commended the organization for giving award to some of their members who distinguished themselves in humanitarian services in the society.

She described the recognition as source of encouragement to the awardees and other women, stressing that her pet project HOPE AFRESH FOUNDATION will appreciate collaboration with the women organization to rekindle the hope of the people, especially the down trodden in the society.

Mrs. Darius Ishaku, re-echoed the message when she met with individual women and youth groups, among them, women wing of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Federation of Muslim Women, FOMWAN, wives of CTC Chairmen, the physically challenged, market women, Tiv women, PDP, DDI Campaign Organization, to mention a few.

At these meetings the wife of the Governor said the women and youths must be organized and focused as they key into the Rescue Mission of the administration. She outlined the objectives of her pet project, HOPE AFRESH FOUNDATION, to include giving hope to the hopeless, tackle poverty across the state, protect the vulnerable, meet the specific needs of Tarabans and strengthen the state financially, stressing that through collaborations collectively, target goals will be achieved.

In matching word with action in the area of collaboration, the wife of the Governor jointly with the National Directorate of Employment, NDE and a Non-Governmental Organization, Solid Skills Consult trained over five hundred young men and women in skills acquisition programmes out of which over hundred were empowered to boost or start-up businesses of their own and be employers of labor.

During the training and empowerment exercises, the founder and initiator, HOPE AFRESH FOUNDATION, Mrs. Ishaku, said partnership with NGOs remains the watch word in the mission to renew hope in the people and rebuild the society.

During the period under review, the Wife of the Governor through her pet project HOPE AFRESH FOUNDATION collaborated with the state ministry of Women Affairs to wage war against the dreaded disease called cancer with the distribution of cancer testing kit to women across the state.

Mrs. Darius, while distributing the testing kit, described cancer as the deadliest disease which is more than HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria combined, hence the most potent poison.

She further stressed that the cancer scourge puts its victims through harrowing experience, slowly but systematically torturing and killing its victims and without a second chance for its victims.

The wife of the Taraba state Governor said that the distribution exercise is an extension of the war against cancer launched by the United States forty-four years ago, an Act in which all nations of the world keyed into and in collaboration with Non-Governmental Organizations at all levels attained appreciable level of successes, giving cancer victims second chance and reducing its spread.

Mrs. Anna Ishaku emphasized that, as a Non-Governmental Organization, the HOPE AFRESH FOUNDATION is collaborating with Ministry of Women Affairs to give hope to hitherto hopeless patients through enlightening the women of the state on the dangers of cancer and practical training on how to properly prevent the spread in the body through early detection using the testing kit, urging women to give serious attention to all effort aimed at halting the cancer scourge.

The Chief Medical Director, Specialist Hospital Jalingo, Dr. Rimamde Joel Ubandoma, led other consultant physicians to speak on causes, prevention and management of breast and cervical cancers, which are women related and demonstrated the usage of the breast cancer testing kit.

In this effort of Mrs. Anna Darius Ishaku reaching out and touching lives of the people, particularly women, youths and the less privileged at such an appreciable level within a hundred days in office of this administration, leaves one in no doubt that the rescue mission is right on course for the well being of the people.
