In an attempt to ameliorate the sufferings of victims of communal clashes in Takum local government area of Taraba state, Gov. Darius Dickson Ishaku donated relief materials to victims through the Taraba state Emergency Management Agency(SEMA)
The relief materials were received by the Caretaker Chairman of Takum local government council, Hon. Shiban Tikari who said it takes a leader with the thought of the people like Gov. Ishaku to ensure that traumatised persons are given hope through succor.
“The effort of the Governor to ensure that normalcy returns to the affected areas in Takum through deployment of security apparatus and constitution of reconciliation committee composed of Tiv and Jukun stakeholders is a panacea to building a lasting peaceful coexistence between the warring factions.”
“The committee has indeed helped in laying strong peace foundation despite forces of the enemies who are hell bent on thwarting it for their selfish and political reasons”, Shiban added.
“As you can this crisis has not helped Tiv nor Jukun but reduced us to refugees in our homes.
“Just imagine how we can’t go freely back to our farm even as the rain approaches. I hereby want to urge all of you to put behind your differences and coexist peacefully with each other.”
“Don’t allow your tribesmen whose aim is to use you and your children to score cheap political points by inciting you against your neighbors continue to deceive you.”
“Let’s continue to support the Governor in his ongoing peace process so as to achieve more of his Rescue Agenda”, Shiban reiterated.”
In a swift response, the Permanent Secretary, Taraba state Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Nuvalga DanHabu said the attention of their plight was captured by the Agency through briefs being sent to the Governor by the Chairman.
He further admonished the affected persons to always subscribe to every peace building initiative developed by the Ishaku-led government because it is a government that prioritises peace and that without peace there would be no development.
In his words,
“The only solution to this problem is to always support the Governor to build peace in Taraba. We can’t benefit from any development, be it infrastructure or human empowerment if we don’t live peacefully with ourselves.”
“The beneficiaries of the relief materials should utilise it. The food items should be shared evenly to ensure that it gets to everyone”, DanHabu added.
The relief materials delivered consist of food items such as bags of maize, cassava flour and rice. Others were cartons of maggi, jericans of palm oil alongside clothes, blankets, mattresses and mats.
