Taraba Crisis: IGP Fulfils Promise, Commissions Mobile Squadron.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Kpotum Idris, has arrived in Jalingo, Taraba state, to assess the security situation and see how the police can come in to salvage the situation.

The Inspector General made this known during a meeting with Gov. Darius Ishaku in Government House Jalingo, Monday.

Speaking during the occasion, the IGP, Ibrahim Kpotum Idris, disclosed that three other mobile police units have been deployed in the state with a helicopter. He also disclosed that one mobile police squadron would be commissioned in the state.

“We would do as much as possible for security to be restored”, he added.

Idris however, stated that the reason for his visit was to make a personal assessment of the security situation and to see what they could add to ensure security in the state.

In his response, the Taraba state governor, Darius Ishaku stated that in 2018, he sent a plea for a full fledged mobile police unit in Takum and other security flashpoints in the state and that he was happy that the request has been granted and ready for commissioning.

He identified the challenges the police was facing in the state to be in the area of logistics and promised to assist with vehicles.

Ishaku pointed that “peace was the underlining factor for everything we do” and therefore called on the people to give him peace.

He however, requested the Inspector General to make sure that the police command headquarters was completed. He then promised a land for police primary and secondary schools and that he would confirm if the Certificate of Occupancy was ready for the IG to take it along with him.

The IG came with an entourage consisting of AIG zone 3, Kayode Aderanti, top personnel of the Army, NSCDC, Customs, Immigration, Prisons, NDLEA and the SSS. He is expected to have a separate meeting with traditional rulers to have a first-hand information of the security situation in the state.
