Establishment of State Police: The Only Viable Option in Managing Crises in the Country – Gov. Ishaku

Taraba state Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku says the establishment of State Police is the only viable option to curtail the incessant crises in the country.
Governor Darius Ishaku stated this recently in his office Government House Jalingo, when officials of the National Union of Local  Employees NULGE, Taraba state Chapter visited him in his office to appreciate his efforts for boldly embarking on the local staff verification exercise across the sixteen local government areas.
Darius Ishaku maintained that the establishment of a state Will go a long in reducing bottlenecks often encountered in the management of crises across the country due to long bureaucratic procedures often encountered when a crisis occurs.
He explained that the present hierarchy of the Nigerian Police Force NPF, have on several occasions impacted negatively and sometimes catastrophic to the lives and property of the people of this country.
The Governor lamented that in an event of an emergency in a community, the Divisional Police Officer will have to inform the Area Commander, then the state Commissioner of Police, the AIG of the zone before it finally gets to the Inspector General of Police IGP and asserted that before this cumbersome procedure is finally completed the damage would have been done.
Accordingly, Governor Darius Ishaku noted that with the creation of state Police it would reduce to the barest minimum the chain of command arising from the present federal structure of the Police which takes a longer time to receive feedback and by then, the worst would have happened.
Speaking further, the Governor averred that, for the states in the country to be proactive in the management of crises, states should be allowed to create state police but with strict compliance to the provision of the Constitution outlining its areas of operations and limitations and posited that with State Police, the organisation would be better managed and funded as well as ending some of the encumbrances often encountered with Federal police structure.
Governor Darius Ishaku pointed out that, at the moment most of the operational incentives of the police are mostly being provided by state Governments and asserted that the establishment of the State Police is the only solution to cope with the rapidly increasing population of the country.
He called on the Federal Government to look into the issue holistically so that the country would be better policed, combat ready and result oriented at all times.
In his thank you speech, the state President of National Union of Local Governments Employees NULGE, comrade Naphtali Kefas said they are in his office to commend him for his ingenuity for embarking on local government councils verification exercise, saying that it has helped significantly in salary stabilisation across the 16 local government areas.
Naphtali Kefas assured the Governor of the support of NULGE in the state and asserted that they will stand by him and will support all his initiatives that is aimed at repositioning the state for the better.
