AfDB Boss Pledges Taraba Water Support To Governor Dickson

IDPBankGovernor Darius Dickson Ishaku said, he is disturbed by the perennial water scarcity in the state, saying that, the situation has to be overcome so that the people will enjoy portable drinking water to enhance their well being.

He explained that, out of the twenty-five boreholes constructed by the Bank in the state some years back, only ten are functional, stressing that the number is grossly inadequate for the state capital with a population estimate to be about half a Million.

Responding, the Director, African Development Bank, AfDB, in Nigeria, Ousmane Dore, said the visit was the first by any Governor after the 2015 election and pledged to give the Governor’s request a favorable consideration.

He explained that the water project in the state is on-going and added that the Bank is keen on its completion, maintaining that the project which is estimated to cost twenty-four million  ($24m), can sustain a good number of the population of the state.

Mr. Dore also said the Bank is interested in supporting Taraba to harness its rich agricultural and mineral resources to boost economic development in the state.
