Breaking News: Governor Agbu Kefas Declares 24-Hour Curfew in Karim Town

In response to the escalating communal conflicts in certain areas of Karim Lamido Local Government Area (LGA), the Executive Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas has announced an immediate 24-hour curfew, effective from July 2nd, 2023.

The declaration came through a press release issued by Yusuf Sanda, the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Governor.

The primary objective of the curfew is to restore peace and ensure the safety of residents in Karim town and its surrounding areas. The recent upsurge in communal tensions necessitated this decisive action to prevent further violence and protect the lives and property of the people.

To enforce the curfew, security agencies have been given strict instructions to ensure compliance. Any individual or group found violating the order will face legal consequences in accordance with the law.

Governor Agbu Kefas urges all ward heads, village heads, traditional rulers, and stakeholders in Karim Lamido LGA to be aware of this development and cooperate fully. Their cooperation and support are crucial in maintaining peace and order during this period of unrest.

Press Release: Taraba State Government Establishes Task Force on Suspension of Mining Activities

His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has granted approval for the formation of a 14-member task force dedicated to the suspension of mining activities within the state. The committee is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the concerns associated with mining operations.

Brigadier General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (Rtd) has been appointed as the Chairman of the task force, while Major Ishaq Soje Mafindi (Rtd) assumes the position of Vice Chairman. The committee consists of esteemed members such as Lcpl Akpana Godwin, Private Ofoli Omini, and Private Ofoli Eket from the Army, who will serve as valuable contributors to the task force.

In addition, ASP Adamu Danya, Abdul Direba, and Habu Ciroma from the Nigerian Police, as well as Supt Haruna Yahaya, ASCI Bello Danjuma Yusuf, and ASCII from the NSCDC, bring their expertise and knowledge to the committee.

Furthermore, DS Useni, AA, Girgir, and HN Vanaruwa from the DSS have been appointed as members, enhancing the task force’s ability to address a wide range of issues related to the suspension of mining activities.

The 14-member task force is scheduled to be inaugurated on Friday, June 30, 2023, at the Government House in Jalingo. The inauguration ceremony will commence promptly at 3:00 PM.

Gov. Agbu Kefas Sets Up Committee To Review the Activities of Boards/Commissions and Governing Councils

His Excellency, The Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas has approved the constitution of a Nine (9) man Committee to Review the activities of
the dissolved Boards/Commissions and Governing Councils in Taraba State from 2019 to 2023.

This was contained in a press releaese signed by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Barr. GT Kataps.

It states that the Taraba State Auditor-General, Mr. Polycarp Iranius is to serve as Chairman of the committee and listed the other members of the committee as follows;

1. Dr. Gangum Ahmed Williams – Member
(Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Rural and Community Development)

2. Mallam Adullahi M. Sanusi – Member
(DPRS LGSC)

3. Mrs. Fatima T. Yusuf – Member
(Retired Director, Social Mobilization)

4. Mr. Obadiah T. Ipeyen – Member
(Auditor-General, LG)

5. Mr. Livinus Jesse Ayih – Member
(Taraba State university)

6. Professor Nicholas Nyemise – Member

7. Mallam Kefas N. Saleh – Member

8. Mr. Genesis Kwantar
(Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Record)

It states that the term of reference includes the underlisted;
1. To determine the performance of all the Boards/Commissions and the inflows/outflows Of funds Of the Board/Commissions.

2. To determine the performance Of the Boards/Commissions in terms Of service delivery as it affects such Boards/Commissions in the interest Of the state.

3. To determine the performance of the Boards/Commissions and its performance indexes, negative or positive as it affects the various zones and components of the state.

4. To suggest to the government how best to reorganize such Boards/Commissions in order to function optimally and achieve its set objectives in the best interest of the state.

5. To determine if necessary to improve or retain the remuneration of members Of Boards/Commissions to achieve maximum performance.

6. To suggest the cost of it funding if any, and other advise to improve these Boards/Commissions.

7. To investigate/review performance of the consultants on payroll management of the state (Starterpoint) to determine whether or not its performance meets the required standard and to advice the government.

It states that the Committee has twenty-one (21) days to submit its report

The Official Nomenclature for Addressing His Excellency – CPS

The Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Yusuf Sanda, released a press statement informing the public that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, should now be known and addressed as DR AGBU KEFAS.

Sanda urged the media and general public to strictly adhere to the official nomenclature in all correspondences in order to end any confusion or misunderstanding regarding the proper title while addressing the Executive Governor.

Taraba State Government has debunked rumours making the rounds in some social media platforms that the sixteen local government caretaker committee have been dissolved.

This was contained in a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Iliya Bekyu Akweh.

It states that the government has no any intention to do that at all.

The general public is therefore advised to disregard such rumours which is completely false and misleading.
