Taraba Govt. Evacuates 383 Students from University of Jos
The Taraba State Government on Thursday evacuated 383 of its students from the University of Jos, following renewed killings in Jos where a student of the University was confirmed dead.
Special Adviser to Governor Darius Ishaku on Students Affairs, Hon. Samson Tor-Musa disclosed this on Friday while briefing journalists in Jalingo.
Tor-Musa told journalists that the State Government took the step following a distress call from the students of Taraba origin studying in the University who appealed to it to come to their aid.
He explained that the discovery of the car belonging to the missing rtd Army General in Jos led to the escalation of tension in the University, leading to the death of a student of the school.
“The pond where the car of the missing Army General was found is located close to one of the University Village (hostels), so there was tension following the incident.
“The University confirmed one student dead, but when we got the school, we discovered that a prospective student from Takum Local Government Area of Taraba was also killed in the incident.
“We were able to evaluate 383 out of 423 students from the state because some left on their own before we got to Jos,” he said.
The Special Adviser who said the condition of the students was bad and pathetic when they got to the school said the State Government has since reunited the students with their families.
Some of the students who spoke with our correspondent expressed appreciation to the state government for their prompt response.
A parent of one of the students, Mr. Andetarang Irammae thanked Governor Darius Ishaku for his support and quick intervention in the evacuation of the students.
