Speaker, Taraba State House of Assembly – Rt. Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini
Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini, has vowed that the State Legislature will deal decisively with any ministry, department or agency that fails to comply strictly with the 2021 budgetary provisions.
In his speech at the resumption of plenary on Monday, 11th January, 2021, the Speaker also disclosed that the State legislators will embark on routine oversight, stressing that it will no longer be business as usual for the ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in the State.
The Speaker further thanked his colleagues for working assidously to pass the 2021 Appropriation Bill within a record time.
“By this, you have once again demonstrated and exhibited a high sense of responsibilty with uncommon and unparalleled patriotism, commitment and the absolute zeal in the service of our dear State as critical stakeholders,” he added.
The Speaker further assured Tarabans that the State House Assembly, “being a people-oriented Parliament, in all its engagements, will always be in the vanguard of striving to live up to its constitutional responsibility and obligation by ensuring that all appropriate legislative mechanisms that will fast tract Taraba’s development and guarantees the general welfare and wellbeing of our teeming populace are not toyed with,” he pledged.
He also asserted that as elected representatives and very critical and crucial stakeholders in the present political dispensation, the State legislators will continue to work even harder to justify the mandate the people have freely given them.
“This, we will undertake in order to deliver to your doorsteps legislative output that has never been experienced in the State for a very long time now,” he enthused.

Speaker of the Taraba state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Joseph Kunini on Thursday congratulated the state governor Darius Ishaku and his deputy Alh. Haruna Manu over Wednesday Supreme Court ruling which dismissed the appeal of the All Progressive Congress challenging the result of the last governorship election in the state.
The Speaker who spoke to our correspondent on the phone said that the victory at the Apex Court is a reaffirmation of the mandate of the people and prove that democracy is gradually taking deeper roots in the country with the judiciary enjoying relative independence.
Kunini said that with the distraction caused by the case permanently laid to rest now, the governor would focus his whole attention on delivering his rescue blueprint.
“Let me first of all congratulate the state governor Darius Ishaku and his deputy as well as the entire PDP family in the state over this huge victory at the apex court.
“For some of us, this is not coming as a surprise because it is clear all along that the people overwhelmingly gave their mandate to the governor and there is no way anyone can go round and collect this mandate through the back door.”
“The good thing is that this whole thing is now put to rest and the governor can once again focus his whole attention on delivering his rescue agenda blueprint without unnecessary distraction.”
“Let me also call on the people yo set aside political differences and join hands with this government to build a Taraba of our dream.”
“We have the potential to make the state the envy of the nation. All that is needed is for us to set aside our differences and work for the common good of the state rather than our individual or sectional interests” Kunini said.
On his part, State Commissioner of Youths and Sports Alh. Ibrahim Imam has described the Supreme Court victory of Governor Darius Ishaku and his deputy Alh. Haruna Manu as a victory for democracy and the entire people of Taraba.
In an interview with our correspondent in Jalingo, Imam said that the era of politicking is over and it is important for people to come together to develop the state.
Imam said that Taraba was for all and the good of the good was more important than any other interests and urged the people to give the governor the needed support to achieve the much needed development.
Mallam Isah Baba from Sabon Gari Jalingo, described the victory as God’s new year gift to the people of Taraba and called on all to support the Governor to succeed.
Our correspondent reports that there was wild jubilation in Jalingo the state capital following the news of the Apex Court ruling on Wednesday.

Speaking during the condolence, the Speaker described the death of Mrs. Margaret as a great loss not just to the family Of Diah but to all Members of the Taraba State House of Assembly.
Rt. Hon. Joseph explained that death is inevitable and prayed to God to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

The Rt. Hon. Speaker in a press statement made available to AFRONET MEDIA said he is pouring his heart of greetings of love to all Muslim Ummah for this year’s Eid-El-Kabir being celebrated around the world, saying that it is a time of worship to God through the act of sacrifice.

The Speaker, Abel Peter Diah of Taraba state House of Assembly commiserates with the people of Taraba state and the traditional council of the state, the people of Donga, family and associates over the death of His Royal Highness, Danjuma Stephen Bayonga, the Gara of Donga.
Diah who mourned that Bayonga is one of the respected monarch who believed so much in the unity and peaceful coexistence of the state, a man with high virtues of humility will be greatly missed at the time the state is in dare need of him.
In a press statement made available to our medium, the Rt. Hon. Speaker and the entire lawmakers of the state’s assembly condoles the governor of the state, Arch. Darius Ishaku, the traditional rulers, the people of Donga and the immediate family of late Stephen to have confidence that the revered traditional leader left a good mark of leadership that will be forever remembered.
