Taraba Assembly Receives 98 Memoranda as Public Hearing on Open Grazing Prohibition Bill Ends.
Taraba State House of Assembly Ad-hoc Committee on the State Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Bill 2017 said it has received 98 written memoranda from members of the public.
Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Mark Useni disclosed this in Bali while addressing journalists at the end of the public hearing on the bill which ended in Bali, the headquarters of Bali Local Government Area of the State.
It could be recalled that public hearing on the bill commenced in Jalingo the State Capital for the Northern Zone on Tuesday last week and moved to Wukari for the Southern Zone before the final sitting in Bali yesterday for the Central Zone.
Useni while addressing journalists said the overwhelming interest of the public on the bill was first if its kind in the history of the State.
“Since the commencement of legislative business in the State, no bill has ever received the widest attention from the public like this bill.
“We have received 98 memoranda from the public and reading through all these bulky notes would be difficult, but we will do our best to submit the report to the House in good time.
“I also want to assure members of the public that we will ensure justice and fairness in considering the submissions before us and also try to come out with a correct representation of the views expressed by the people of the State during the public hearing,” he said.
Our correspondent reports that the bill which is considered widely as the best solution to ending the incessant herdsmen/farmers clashes in the State received overwhelming support across the three Senatorial Zones of the State, with only Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in the State kicking against the bill.
