Former President Goodluck Jonathan Attends the Wedding Ceremony of Taraba state Governor’s Son in Kaduna State.

The wedding solemnisation between Darius Ikan-Tubui Ishaku and Zulaihatu Hannatu Ibrahim took place in Kaduna on Saturday July 17, 2021 at Our Saviours Anglican Church, Katsina Road, Kaduna.

The ceremony which was attended by former President Goodluck Jonathan and several serving and former governors drew a large crowd from all parts of the country.

Both the church auditorium and the reception arena were filled beyond their capacies.

President Muhammadu Buhari was represented by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor.

The Taraba State Deputy Governor, Engr. Haruna Manu and his wife, speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Albasu Kunini and virtually all members of the House, members of the state Executive Council, traditional rulers, chairmen of all the Local Government Council Areas and their spouses and many other federal and state governments officials from around the country were also in attendance.

Traditional troupes from Taraba State were also fully there to provide entertainment at the reception and other side events organised as part of the ceremony.

Communique Issued At The End of 5th- Meeting of the Governors of the North-East Held in Jalingo, Taraba State – Tuesday, 6th July, 2021

The Executive Governors of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States, under the auspices of North East Governors’ Forum, held its 5th meeting in Jalingo, Taraba State and discussed, among other things, the challenges facing the sub-region.

Under the Chairmanship of the Governor of Borno State, Professor, Babagana Umara Zulum, FNSE, mni the Forum resolved as follows:

The Forum notes the general improvement of the Security situation in the region and calls for continuous collaboration of all the security agencies in the country to sustain the gains.

The Forum, condoles Mr. President, the Nigerian Military and the families of the late Chief of Army Staff Major General Ibrahim Attahiru and the other officers who lost their lives while on duty. It also congratulates the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya on his appointment.

The Forum calls on the diplomatic community, partners and donor agencies supporting the region to activate the process of transiting from humanitarian to stabilization and durable solution within the region. This will ensure sustainability and give people the opportunity to help themselves out of poverty. This will address socio-economic dimension of insecurity in the region.

The Forum also notes the negative impact of drug and narcotic substances in the region and the extent to which it fuels the insurgency and other forms of criminality in the region. It therefore calls for support in the area of stopping drug trafficking and enforcing narcotic control within the region and across the borders.

The Forum notes the good work of the Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria (REAN) and resolved to support the agency to deliver on its mandate within the region. It however, calls on the agency to intensify working with designated Focal Persons at the individual State level to ensure justifiable spread of projects across the region.

While noting the activities of the NEDC as an intervention agency in the region, the Forum expressed deep concern that the level of consultation between the Commission and the various State Governments within the region on project priorities and locations is low and the speed of work on those projects already in place within the region, is slow.

The Forum therefore calls on the Commission to consult the various State Governments within the region on priorities for intervention, location of projects and the development of the North East Masterplan. It equally calls for expedited action to complete the existing projects in the region.

The Forum notes the technical support on potentials for growth and development of the region especially the Agribusiness Programme using innovative financing model of the Adamawa State Government by the Arewa Research and Development Project (ARDP), and agreed that the research be extended to all the States of the region. Forum therefore directed the management of ARDP to immediately prepare and submit the project proposal to the NEGF Secretariat for onward transmission to the various States for implementation.

The Forum while interacting with the Commissioners of the Federal Character Commission, appreciated their effort at ensuring compliance with the Federal Character principle. It however, expressed dismay over the shortfall in the number of applicants from the region in the recent recruitment into some Federal Agencies. The forum therefore, resolved to follow up with all the concerned agencies to ensure that the region gets its fair share in the recruitments into the concerned agencies.

The Forum deliberated extensively on the presentation on the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project and noted with dismay, that the project as important as it is, to Nigeria and the North-East sub-region, is surrounded by a lot of contractual encumbrances which have stalled its take-off and realization.

The Forum, therefore calls on the President to accord the project the desired seriousness by establishing a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to address the encumbrances and bring the project to reality.

In its bid to reposition Education in the sub-region, the Forum has received report from the North East Council on Education. It has taken the Councils’ advisory on the improvement of quality and performance of students and teachers screening and training in the region.

The next meeting of the Forum is to be held in Damaturu, Yobe State, on Saturday, 9th October, 2021.

“We Will Reposition Agriculture as Bedrock of the Economy in Taraba State” – Gov. Ishaku

Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has assured that his administration remains resolute in its determination to reposition agriculture as the bedrock of the state’s economy.

Ishaku who spoke in Government House, Jalingo, on Friday during the inauguration of the Governing Council of the College of Agriculture and the swearing in ceremony of the chairman and members of the State Independent Electoral Commission, SIEC, said inspite of the challenges posed by insecurity and communal crises in the state, his administration has made significant progress in repositioning agriculture as a lucrative enterprise.

He said many people in the state were now into farming business on various scales and levels as a result of which Taraba State has joined the league of major producers of rice, maize, beniseed, soya beans and cassava, among others.

He said his government’s efforts in promoting agriculture has resulted in a situation whereby Taraba State is now contributing substantially to the food needs of the country.

The Governor said the ultimate goal of the state is to produce enough rice to meet the needs of the country and save the country the huge expenditure on importation.

He assured that his administration will assist farmers to secure financial assistance from local and international financial institutions to boost food production.

Governor Ishaku urged the Governing Council of the College of Agriculture to key into this policy of government for quicker results and advised the Council of the institution to come up with innovative ideas that can help farmers become more productive.

The Governing Council of the institution is headed by Dr Muhammed Shatta, a former minister.

Turning to the board of SIEC, Governor Ishaku praised the organisation for consistently asserting its independence and for conducting elections that were free, fair and credible.

He urged the commission to remain focused and should not be distracted by false accusations.

The board of SIEC is headed by Dr Phillip Duwe who also spoke on behalf of the two boards that were inaugurated.

Dr Duwe praised the Governor for always being meticulous in the choice of those who work with him and advised him not to listen to gossips.

He said that those of them honoured with these appointments would not disappoint the Governor “because we know that with every responsibility given, there are expectations.”

Gov. Ishaku Inaugurates Taraba State Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Steering Committee

Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has inaugurated the state action recovery and economic stimulus (CARES) Committee at the Government House Chambers Jalingo.

The Governor addressing the members of the committee said the COVID-19 ACTION RECOVERY AND ECONOMIC STIMULUS (CARES) is a World Bank programme initiated by the Federal Government and the Nigerian Governor’s Forum (NGF) to mitigate the impact of covid-19 pandemic.

He said it is an intervention programme that is built on the platforms of existing projects of the Federal Government of Nigeria which include National Cash Transfer Programme (NCTP), Youth Empowerment and Social Support Operations (YESSO), Community and Social Development Project (CSDP) FADAMA and Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP).

He said that the NG-CARES is designed to restore livelihood of the poor and vulnerable, maintain food security and facilitate recovery of Micro and Small Enterprises to achieve some of the key objectives of the Federal Government’s Economic Sustainability Plan (ESP).

“This program no doubt is in line with the Rescue Agenda being pursued vigorously by this administration. For this reason, in our strive to provide basic needs of life amidst scarcity of funds, we will not hesitate to leverage on any resources to meet our ambition especially the kind that will lift people out of poverty,” said the Governor.

According to the govrnor, the program has three result areas each comprising four Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs) (i.e. targets set for intervention) which are; increased social transfers, basic services, and livelihood support to poor and vulnerable households; increasing food security and safe functioning of food supply chains; facilitating recovery; and enhancing capabilities of small and medium enterprises.

Taraba state chose four (4) out of the Twelve (12) DLIs based on the state’s needs, ease of delivery and the resources available which are; Community and Group investment to be implemented by Community and Social Development Project (CSDP); Food Security and livelihood to be implemented by FADAMA III; Conditional Grants to SMEs to be implemented by Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) and Livelihood Grants to be implemented by Special Grant Transfer (SGT).

“Let me reiterate that the programme is tagged Programme for Result (PforR), therefore, does not reward uncompleted effort because it is result based.

 

“For this reason, all hands must be on deck in order to achieve optimally.”

 

“While I urged you to discharge your responsibilities in accordance with the World Bank/Federal Government protocol agreements, I as well direct all government agencies and the public to give this programme all the support needed for smooth operation.”
